About Campinas

Main economic and cultural driving force of the region, Campinas is a city that notable for its quality-of-life indicators and growth potential. In spite of its modernity, Campinas is still a city preserving the traits of a rich heritage, built mainly during the coffee economy boom of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th.

Together with its cultural tradition, a great deal of the dynamics of Campinas can be attributed to its tradition in the educational area, begun by institutions such as the Colégio Culto à Ciência, where Alberto Santos Dumont studied. At the beginning of the 21st century, the city offers an ample school network, as well as its three traditional universities.

The healthcare is also to be commended, as Campinas is the home of several outstanding hospitals. Among these institutions, it is worth mentioning the Centro Domingos Boldrini, a world reference in children's cancer and other blood-related diseases.

However, the city’s greatest differential is its scientific production and its position as a world reference in science and technology. Its eleven research institutes, namely Unicamp, CPQD, PUC, IAC, ITAL among others, now congregated in the Campinas Forum Foundation are responsible for the city’s worldwide reputation for excellence. It is recognized as one of the planet’s 40 major high-technology hubs. Campinas indeed deserves the title of ‘Capital of Science and Technology’, a trademark that certifies it as an important center of events and business tourism destination, sectors that boost the already healthy economy of the municipality and contribute to the high living standards of its inhabitants.
